Brunswick Community College Foundation

The Brunswick Community College Foundation was organized in 1982 to provide a means for soliciting and accepting substantial gifts of money or property in order to build an endowment fund that would promote the educational purpose and welfare of Brunswick Community College.

Since its establishment, the Foundation has enabled the college to meet a number of diverse needs that would be impossible to meet with state funds. Its primary focus has been to provide scholarship support for students. In addition, the Foundation has assisted faculty members by granting funds for professional development and sponsored various lecture series and cultural events.

The Brunswick Community College Foundation is governed by an independent 20 member volunteer board of directors, with additional honorary and ex-officio directors, including the president of the university and other key administrators. Through its board and committee structure, the Foundation gives friends and alumni a personal involvement in the fundraising and asset management program.

Brunswick Community College Student Ambassador Association Mission: to build community, develop leaders, and create opportunities

Developing Leaders:
Goals: Our goals are to provide students with opportunities to develop and enhance their leadership philosophy; gain practical leadership experience; and become better skilled in using a variety of leadership techniques and models.

Creating Opportunities:
Goals: Our goals are to increase opportunities for students to access education; reduce internal and external barriers to educational success; and to provide opportunities for practical life and human relations skills.

In appreciation for their efforts, each Ambassador receives a polo shirt with the Student Ambassador logo (which they wear to class presentations and program functions), a $250 stipend each semester, recognition, and letters of recommendation for their portfolios. Their pictures are prominently displayed in the Office of Development.

Equally important and rewarding is the personal, professional, and academic growth the students achieve through their participation in the Ambassador program.

Membership:
The Student Ambassadors organization is composed of students representing all possible segments of student life. Students serving as Ambassadors must go through a process of nomination, interview, and selection. The members then must complete Student Ambassadors Orientation and Peer Mentor Training.

Institutional Benefits:
The Student Ambassadors provide many benefits to Brunswick Community and its community.

Not only does the College gain valuable assistance with campus events and programs, but also the amount of positive publicity is immeasurable. The Student Ambassadors organization promotes campus spirit, develops student pride and loyalty, and creates active volunteers who will become effective student and alumni leaders. By maintaining the Student Ambassadors' tradition of excellence, members promote quality and set an example for other students and organizations on campus.

Annual Giving
Annual Giving opportunities assist the efforts to improve the value of the Brunswick Community College . A variety of giving opportunities are made available through various organizations and drives including:

Planned Giving
Planned giving provides you with many options to help the college through an unrestricted gift. Unrestricted gifts enable the college to direct resources to meet the most pressing need or make the greatest impact.

Corporate Giving/Business Partners
Corporate giving is a vital source of funding at Brunswick Community College. These relationships and support enable the college to continue providing a valuable and rewarding educational experience to our future business and community leaders.

Ways of Giving
Private financial support of the Brunswick Community College can be given in two distinct ways - either through current gifts or endowment gifts.

Donors may direct current gifts to the discretionary use of one of the schools, a department, or a program within the college. Or, current gifts may be given to the unrestricted fund, which is used to fund the high priority projects of the college.
Endowment support creates a perpetual source of funding by keeping the principal of the gift intact. Only the income of the fund's earnings can be spent to support the designated program or scholarship.

Endowments strengthen Brunswick Community College immeasurably and tie generations together through a common vision of the College's future. Because the gifts endure in perpetuity, endowment donors share a sense of joy and pride during their lifetime, knowing that they have made this college a part of their own legacy.

The Brunswick Community College Foundation manages the endowment funds for the College. While the Foundation works on many fronts to serve both the long- and short-term goals of the College careful stewardship of endowment gifts is its top priority.

Endowment funds are usually paid over a period of time. Most donors will want to carefully consider a variety of methods for funding endowment gifts. The specific giving guidelines listed below illustrate categories of possible endowment funds.

Outright Gifts
Outright gifts include cash, securities, real property, and personal property. The donor receives a charitable deduction for the gifts.

Life Income Gifts
Life income gifts include cash, securities, and real property to establish charitable trusts. Donors receive a charitable deduction and, in addition, the donors or designated beneficiaries will receive income for life. The Foundation receives the trust remainder after the lifetime of the donor(s).

Life Estate Gifts
Life estate gifts include a residence, farm, or vacation home. Donors will receive a charitable deduction at the time of the gift, and the donors retain a life estate in the property, i.e., they continue to use the property for life. Upon the donors' death, ownership of the property transfers to the Foundation.

Bequests
Bequests include cash, securities, real property, and personal property. Donors make a provision in their will for the Brunswick Community College Foundation.

Remember - Your donations provide scholarships for students, enhance program offerings and help build buildings on our growing campus.

Brunswick County Stars Take Center Stage for Students

Supply, NC - Brunswick County celebrities will strap on their dancing shoes as The Foundation of Brunswick Community College hosts “Dancing with the Brunswick County Stars” in the Grand Ballroom of the Sea Trail Conference Center on August 1, 2008. Like the ABC hit show, couples comprised of one local star and one professional dancer will perform a choreographed routine and the audience will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite. Professional Dancers and their celebrity partners came together for a meet and greet opportunity Wednesday, March 26, 2008. Although some have already begun learning the steps to ballroom classics like the tango and the cha-cha, others had not even met their partners.

Tickets for the August 1st event will go on sale April 15, 2008, at the Odell Williamson Auditorium. Tickets cost $150 per couple/$75 individual and include dinner and the performances. Additional ticket locations will be announced in the next few weeks. For sponsorship opportunities call the Office of Development (910) 755-8517.

Brunswick Community College’s Foundation has set a goal to supplement traditional fundraising with money raised through this unique and exciting event. All proceeds from this event will directly benefit BCC scholarship recipients. This benefit involves county-wide community support and participation. It is the hope of Brunswick Community College that through affordable and accessible opportunities, students will reach lifelong success.
